Born and raised in Germany, I conducted my undergraduate studies in Biology at the Freie Universität Berlin in collaboration with the German Rheumatism Research Center (DRFZ/ Charité). From Berlin I moved to Québec city, Canada - for my PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology in the labs of Dr. Guy G. Poirier and Dr. Jean-Yves Masson. I herein studied the PARP-1 associated DNA damage respone to DNA double-strand breaks and added the French language to my repertoire. After my PhD, I fled the cold in Canada moving to sunny California, USA, for a short postdoc in the lab of Dr. Camilla Forsberg, to study the influence of higher order chromatin structure on hematopoietic stem cell fate decisions. Thereafter, in 2016, I got the unique chance to permanently join the Lopes lab at the University Zürich, Switzerland as a Senior Research Assistant. Since then, I am actively involved in many of the exciting ongoing research venues, the lab management and organization and am outside of the lab playing volleyball, enjoying the outdoors and most and foremost the time with my kids.
